Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

This is the highest mountain in Africa. It is snow caped and world’s highest free standing volcano summits. The mountain comprises of two dormant volcanoes (Kibo 5,895m a.m.s.l and Mawenzi 5,149m a.m.s.l) and one extinct volcano (Shira 3,962m a.m.s.l) respectively. The origin of the word is not well known but it said to be a combination of the Swahili word Kilima meaning “Mountain” and the Kichagga word Njaro, loosely translated as “Whiteness” giving the name “White Mountain”.

Its size is 1,712Km2 and was declared as a National Park in 1973, officially opened for tourism in 1977, Kilimanajaro mountain was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987 and Natural Wonder of Africa in 2013. Climbing to the top which is far up into the sky it’s a life time experience that no one can forget.

There are seven official trekking routes by which to ascend and descend Kilimanjaro: Lemosho, Lemosho Western-Breach, Machame, Marangu, Mweka, Rongai, Shira, and Umbwe.

7 Days Marangu Route

Marangu is the oldest and most direct route up Kilimanjaro. In the past, it was known as the busiest route, but these days it’s not as crowded as it used to be.

8 Days Machame Route

This is most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. With Lovely gradual ascent through forest you emerge to see wide views of the moorland on Shira plateau, Kibo and western breach.

8 Days Marangu Route

Marangu is the oldest and most direct route up Kilimanjaro. In the past, it was known as the busiest route, but these days it’s not as crowded as it used to be.

8 Days Rongai Route

Rongai route is less crowded compared to Marangu, it is the easiest route of all the route. It has a relatively gentle gradient and short daily stages

8 Days Umbwe Route

This is one of the shortest routes to the southern glaciers and the western breach of Kibo. An ascent to Kibo via the Umbwe route is probably one of the most scenic ‘non-technic’ mountaineering expeditions in East Africa.

9 Days Shira Route

The 9-day Shira Route offers a scenic and less crowded ascent of Kilimanjaro. With its stunning Shira Plateau and gradual climb, this route provides a rewarding experience.

9 Days Rongai Route

The 9-Day Kilimanjaro Rongai Route offers a quieter, scenic ascent through diverse landscapes. Starting from the northern slopes, trekkers experience forests.

9 Days Umbwe Route

The 9-Day Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route is a more extended version of the classic 8-day trek, providing extra time for acclimatization and exploration of the stunning landscapes.

9 Days Machame Route

The 9-Days Machame Route offers a scenic and gradual ascent up Kilimanjaro, passing through lush forests, alpine deserts, and volcanic landscapes.

9 Days Lemosho Route
