Keys Tour fleet of safari vehicles consists of customized Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 vehicles. All the vehicles have ergonomic seats, fridges for cold drinks and snacks, electrical outlets for device charging, binoculars and first-aid kits. Pop-up roofs, which allows you to stand up and observe and take photos in greater comfort, are also part of the package.
Your driver during any safari is responsible for your safety and comfort for the duration of the tour. All our drivers are also professional wilderness guides, who will gladly share their knowledge of the African bush and its flora and fauna. Our guides and drivers are fluent in English. We can however arrange preferable language guide too.
Safari Lodges usually have multiple quarters spread out across a huge area with a main common building somewhere in between. This common area will have a reception, lounge, restaurant, bar, and sometimes gym, spa services and shops. Many of these lodges also have a swimming pool in the main block where you can relax after a game drive.
Tented Lodges usually have between 15 to 25 rooms(tents) that are situated at some distance from one another, with the main/common area located in the middle. The common area is equipped with a dining room, lounge, and often has a small terrace and a swimming pool. Most tented lodges offer stunning views of the savannah.
Tented camps (- Not to be confused with basic camps -) are by far the most popular kind of accommodation available inside national parks. These are very comfortable walk-in tents, that are made fully out of canvas and are of the size of an average hotel room (or sometimes even larger) with private ensuite bathrooms using bucket or running showers, long-drop or even flush toilets, solid beds with thick mattresses. You will also have chairs and a table so that you can sit outside your tent if you wish to.
Tipping is expected in Tanzania. We recommend $10-20 USD per every day of the safari per car, provided you are satisfied with the service.
According to National Park regulations, all photo and video recording is allowed without the use of specialized equipments. This means that you may use any photo and video cameras. Permits must be obtained for any recording that may later be used commercially. This does not apply to images and videos that may later be used in social media. Drones can only be used with permission, which must be obtained in advance.
All our safari packages are sold on a full-board basis. Breakfasts are taken at the lodge, lunches come in the form of lunch boxes, which you can enjoy at one of the picnic spots within the Park, and dinners are once again taken at the lodge.
The Parks of the North of Tanzania lie relatively close to each other, making for 2 to 3-hour drives in between.
The main activities within/around the Ngorongoro crater are game drives, photographic Safaris, picnics, nature walks, birding, visiting the Maasai villages, hot air ballooning, a tour of Olduvai Gorge, visiting the Empakaai Crater, hiking to the summit of the Gol Mountains and Oldoinyo Lengai.
June to August is the best time for a safari in Tanzania. The spectacular Mara River crossing occurs June-July and dryer weather means more wildlife around waterholes. That said, the Great Migration swirls around the Serengeti outside these months; you just have to follow its course.
Animals native to Tanzania include cheetahs, lions, wildebeests, gazelles, ostriches, elephants, and giraffes. Tanzania has the highest number of predators in Africa, and these includes leopards, jackals, hyenas, and big cats. Reptiles include agama lizards and crocodiles.
Tanzania National Parks regulations strictly prohibit leaving the vehicle within the Parks, both for the safety of the visitor and that of the fragile local ecosystem. However, this does not mean that you should expect to be cooped up in the car for a whole day. All the Parks are equipped with rest/picnic spots, where you can take a stroll and enjoy lunch in the shade.
Airstrips are available at or near all of Tanzania’s National Parks. Flying between the Parks – especially when going to one or more of the southern Parks – saves a lot of time,
